Based on a painting by Christopher Wool from 1990, this poster was created in 1993 for the Printed Matter exhibition at Dia in New York City as a “stack” piece by Felix Gonzalez-Torres in collaboration with Wool. The poster was available to be freely taken from the stack by those attending the exhibition, and this poster was taken from that very exhibition. The text is from Russian writer and philosopher Vasili Rozanov’s definition of nihilism.
